The Gartmore Village Map
Gartmore
Village Map was published in 1994 by the Gartmore Village Map Group.
The map forming the centrepiece of the
front of the sheet is a bird's eye view of the village of Gartmore in a
pictorial and three dimensional representation. A 'fish-eye lens'
projection has been used to construct the map. This means the scale of the
central part of the map is 1:1650 covering nearly all of the village.
However, scale diminishes rapidly in the peripheral area, but true
direction is maintained from the centre of the village to features marked
on the horizon forming the edge of the map and visible from Gartmore.
Surrounding the map are coloured
illustrations of the main buildings of Gartmore, its wildlife and
landscape.
On the reverse of the sheet is as brief
history of Gartmore, details of the natural history of the village and a
geographical summary. The text is interspersed with attractive line
drawings.
